Photos of President Rodrigo Duterte, presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio, and SAP Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go endorsing erstwhile Cabinet Secretary Leoncio ‘Jun’ Evasco Jr. to become the next governor of Bohol tell us a lot.
It tells us President Duterte will endorse a trusted official who is not a member of PDP-Laban. With Duterte’s endorsement comes the support of SAP Bong Go.
Jun Evasco, who is also known in Bohol by his nickname ‘Tuloy,’ had a certificate of nomination and acceptance (CONA) from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), his party since 1991.
Evasco is also a member of Alyansang Bol-anon alang sa Kausaban (ABAKA) which is allied with Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) of Mayor Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio.
His opponent Cong. Arthur Yap, on the other hand, is the official candidate of the administration party PDP-Laban faction headed by Sen. Aquilino ‘Koko’ Pimentel, Cong. Pantaleon ‘Bebot’ Alvarez and Sec. Alfonso Cusi.
The PDP-Laban faction identified with Rogelio Garcia, however, issued a CONA to the actor Roberto ‘Amay Bisaya’ Reyes.
While Cong. Yap is quite close to Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who had the support of Mayor Inday Sara during the House coup against then Speaker Pantaleon “Bebot” Alvarez, the Davao mayor failed to get her endorsement.
Cong. Yap has forged an alliance with erstwhile Bohol Governor Edgardo Chatto and first district representative Rene Relampagos called “Padayon Bol-anon.” Chatto is now running for the first district congressional seat while Relampagos is Yap’s running mate.
Yap downplays the non-Bol-anon tag saying he represented the third district for three terms and was even named deputy speaker.
ABAKA leaders, nevertheless, insist Yap is not a true-blooded Boholano, unlike Evasco. “Natawo si Tuloy sa Maribojoc. He is a true-blooded Bol-anon,” they said.
